Too many ideas, one company to build them. Here is what we make, why we make it, and why we think the future has already shipped.

An Introduction

Welcome to 315 Concepts: a crowded head full of too many ideas, turned into a company that builds them. Here’s what we make, how we think about it, and why we believe the future has already shipped.

What is 315 Concepts?

The digital revolution connected our machines, putting that connectivity in our offices and workstations and in the hands of billions of people through mobile devices: an unprecedented level of processing power, storage, and access to knowledge. The modern, realized version of the 4th Industrial Revolution completes that loop by plugging in massive IoT, sensor, and appliance networks - with artificial intelligence layered on top to manage the resulting flood of data. On the software side, cloud-native services are just as empowering: platforms built to scale from day one, so the same infrastructure that supports a greenfield prototype can carry an entire fleet without endless compromises. Behind the scenes, digital design systems and intelligent manufacturing are converging into a single process, converting the manufacturing of physical goods from a single expensive checkbox on a list into a fluid and ongoing at-cost conversation between customers, companies, and manufacturers.

Our Take

At 315 Concepts, we build on that full-stream fusion by treating these systems as our native day-one approach to delivering value. Products move from digital design to physical good in a single continuous process, then stay backed by intelligent, cloud-connected services that keep learning long after they leave the shop. Devices, services, and user experiences can all evolve in real time to ensure that value delivery stays active and consistent, while a zero-trust approach to security means hardened protection is built in from the very first design stage, not bolted on after launch.

Much of the industry is still approaching the 4th Industrial Revolution.

At 315 Concepts we deliver it.

What You’ll Find Here

The blog is where all the concepts get sorted, and it comes in three flavors.

Articles

Ideas, opinions, and explainers. This is where we think out loud about how design, manufacturing, smart devices, cloud services, and artificial intelligence all fit together, and why the tradeoffs land where they do. Less “here’s how we do it,” more “here’s how we see it.”

Guides

Step-by-step walkthroughs you can follow at the workbench. Printables, wiring, firmware, and services, written so you can get from “I want” to “it works” without repeating our mistakes. Any code or design files live on our GitHub, so you can grab them, give us feedback, and contribute your own improvements for whoever builds it next.

Projects

Full build write-ups, from first sketch to finished thing, including the wrong turns. These are the posts most likely to end with a new rung on the product ladder, or with an open source release you can build for yourself.

Finding Your Way Around

Two lists keep the pile navigable when you’re looking for something particular. The Hot List is what readers keep coming back to: the most popular posts, whenever they were written. Fresh Commits is what just landed: the newest posts, in the order we pushed them. If you’re new, start with the Hot List. If you’re a regular, Fresh Commits is your feed.

The blog home also lists all our major projects - so you can follow the whole story behind each one, and not just the write-ups: the designs, code, and products that grow out of them.

How We Approach Things

Big ideas are cheap. We have… at least 315 of them. What matters is which ones survive contact with a workbench, so everything we publish comes from something we actually built, ran, and broke along the way. Because the idea is rarely the hard part. The hard part is the balancing act: a part design that prints cleanly and holds up in the real world, firmware that’s lean and updatable, a device that’s connected and secure, a service that’s high-performance and reliable. Stack all of them up at once and pull one lever and three others move. That’s where most good concepts stall out, somewhere between “this should work” and “this ships.”

That’s the stretch we write about, and it’s the stretch we work in every day. If you’re trying to get a concept from prototype to product, this is where we can help. We’ve made the tradeoffs the slow way so you can make them faster, and we’ll point out the soft spots, dead ends, and “oh, that’s why nobody does it that way” moments before you have to find them yourself.

Hard Delivery

The articles, guides, and projects in this blog start with a real concept or problem and push towards something that works or… works better. If we show a design, you’ll see the printed part and where we didn’t quite nail it. If we show a device, you’ll see the architecture and services behind it, and how it holds up in the field. No hand-waving between the diagram and the product. Failed prints, bad designs, and 2 a.m. debugging sessions make the best teachers, so they get written up rather than glossed over. We also follow up with what we’d do differently next time, because the next build always benefits from the last one’s lessons.

This is what “hard delivery” looks like from the inside: less talk about where the industry is heading, more evidence that we’re already there - one carefully lined-up 1 and 0 at a time.

What We Make

Most of what we make is physical, released on a product ladder so you can step on at whatever rung fits what you’re trying to do - the higher the rung, the less you need to bring with you. Along the way, we’ll release what we can as open source on our GitHub: designs, firmware, and the write-ups behind them. Not everything ships wide open, but enough does to give you a real leg up if you’d rather replicate or remix our work. Whichever rung you land on, it’s all available through our webstore.

Raw Parts

The first rung is the raw materials: 3D printed enclosures, mounts, and fixtures, plus the chips, boards, and devices that go inside them. Buy the pieces, skip the parts-sourcing scavenger hunt - bring your own ideas to life based on a solid, supported foundation.

Development Kits

Next, the barebones kits for developers: essential hardware and just enough structure to start hacking. They’re for people who want to bring their ideas to life on the workbench and would prefer to trade a few dollars to skip the first week of yak shaving. Expect some hands-on work at this level, like soldering and compiling your own firmware to create your own custom applications.

Full Product Kits

Everything in the box to build a finished device yourself, with the design, firmware, and services already worked out. Geared more towards the general tinkerers or for those who want a more hands on experience without having to get too far in the weeds figuring out the latest supported software libraries for compiling their own firmware files.

Finished Devices

The top rung is our retail-grade products: assembled, tested, connected, and ready to use out of the box, backed by the cloud services that keep it improving over time. Requires an average amount of technical skill to use - configuring WiFi credentials over an web portal is probably about as hard as it’s going to get.

The (Not So) Quiet Part

We don’t advertise, we do. Behind the products and the blog is a dedicated and capable engineering team that quietly works with select clients on the hard middle of getting serious ideas connected, secured, and shipped now.

Device Services covers the full path from concept to breadboard to production: radio connectivity, fleet provisioning, security hardening, OTA updates, and the compliance work that connected products need before they reach the field. If you want to build a Thing, we can help you do that.

Cloud Services covers the other half of the question: architecture that scales with your product, compliance built into the infrastructure rather than bolted onto the paperwork, and developer workflows that let your engineers ship without becoming cloud experts. If you want to run something at Scale, we can help you do that.

Data Pipelines, Search, and Applied Intelligence closes the loop, because even the best service-backed network-connected fleet is only as useful as what you can learn from it. If you want to figure out what all that data is trying to Tell you, we can help you do that.

There’s no intake form and this is the entire pitch deck. If you’re stuck somewhere between “this should work” and “this ships now” you know where to find us.
